This week, we will have our Polynomials test (Lessons 9-1 and 9-2) on Wednesday.
We are also working on finishing our Polynomials – FOIL project. We will have presentations on Thursday. I will also finish checking binders and notebooks. Both rubrics were given to you last week (binder and Project).
Math Olympics were held at AST this past weekend. I am glad to inform you that our 8th grade team scored Superior level. Congratulations to Miguel de la Rocha, Jean Phillipe Miralda and Michael Hernandez. Great job, guys!
May 9, 2011 Hi, Girls and Guys! Only a few more weeks to the end of the school year! We have a few more assignments and tests to take. So be strong, perseverant and patient and you will enjoy the reward of a good grade. Ms. Borjas This past week you took your last PLATO Math test. You graded the test right after taking it and now know your score.
Word Problems Booklets #1 and #2 are to be turned in today. It should be turned in together with your work for those problems.
We also started with our Polynomials Unit, Chapter 9. This week we will have a test. I will also, be checking binders and notebooks. You already have your Binder rubric.
Math Olympics will be held at AST this Friday and Saturday.

Hello Everyone! We are almost there, at the end of the school year. I hope you are ready to fight to the end and earn very nice grades and be ready for high school next year. Don´t forget to turn in your bar graph showing your algebra grades, signed by your Parents. Ms. Borjas
At the beginning of this week, we will be reviewing for the PLATO test, in class. The last Math PLATO test is on Wednesday, May 4.
Remember, that at www.edutest.com we have a Practice Algebra Test #1 for you to review, also. You will also finish the Word Problem Booklet 2 by Wednesday and turn it in to me with the work you did for each problem. Remember, no work, no credit.
For the rest of the week, we will continue with our Polynomials Unit. Starting next week, I will be checking binders and notebooks. I will be giving you the Binder rubric, next week.

This Friday is end of the 3rd Quarter. It is also a holiday. So we are off to a short week. Have a great week and beautiful long weekend. End of the 3rd quarter is Friday.

This week, we will start with our Linear Functions Unit. We will be studying sections of Chapter 4 from the textbook.
Also, you should have turned in your Binder and also you were given a grade for OTB (On Task Behavior). Those of you who were out of school with extra-curricular activities need to take the quiz on Measurement as soon as possible. On Tuesday, at 2:30pm I will be giving this quiz to those who need it.

Hello, everyone!
We are about to start a new month. With March comes the value of the month of Discipline. Discipline is required in many aspects of life. Scoring high grades, being good in a certain sport, playing an instrument and being a nice human being all take a lot of discipline. But, it is all worth it!

We have started the Measurement Unit. This week you will be given a new Booklet to work on, Remember, we might have a pop quiz any day. Binder check is going on now. Don’t forget to laminate your Geometry Formulas.
End of the 3rd Quarter is March 11. Make sure to put in an extra effort for you to earn a high grade in Algebra.

It will take place on Wednesday, in the hallway. Make sure your Center has all that it needs to work by itself, like we discussed in class.
Also, your Robot is to be displayed during the walkthrough. It should look attractive and display the volume information you calculated. This week, we will finish with the Angles Booklet. Towards the end of the week, we will continue with our Geometry Unit, with the section on Transformations.

You should make sure your Centers project is complete and ready to make a small presentation for the people visiting. End of the midterm of the 3rd quarter is February 14. Algebra Equations Project: Last Friday your Algebra "Equations " Project was assigned. The following are the steps to be followed (in case you didn't copy them from the board). 1. Solve all the word problems on the Handout. 2. Select one of the problems (with its set of questions) that you just solved. 3. In a piece of construction paper set up the word problem. Give all information that's necessary. Show all your steps to solve it. 4. Make sure you explain each step. Be creative! 5. Make your work attractive and easy to read. 6. Make sure it has a title, name and section and number of the problem. 7. Follow the word problem solving Plan that we studied before in class. You can find it in the textbook in Ch. 1 and also in your class notes.
This project is to be turned in on Tuesday at the end of the class.

We will also, be working on a Foldables– Project. I will give you a Rubric so you can follow. We will work during class on the project.
You need to keep in mind that Internet sources are just a back-up plan. You are to copy homework from Homework Board in the classroom and carry your textbook for homework.

Hi! I hope you had a nice weekend. We just finished our second week of school. I hope you are ready and excited to return to school and work hard. We have many tools to help you do well in class . Make sure to check our Homework Board every day and read this newsletter on our wikipage.

Class description and objectives The 8th grade Algebra course is based on the Standards and Principles of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the academic goals of the American School of Tegucigalpa.
This class seeks, among other things, high expectations and support for all students. The students will work towards their own preparation to go on to more advanced math courses in school years to come.

This week, we will have our Polynomials test (Lessons 9-1 and 9-2) on Wednesday.
We are also working on finishing our Polynomials – FOIL project. We will have presentations on Thursday.
I will also finish checking binders and notebooks. Both rubrics were given to you last week (binder and Project).
Math Olympics were held at AST this past weekend. I am glad to inform you that our 8th grade team scored Superior level.
Congratulations to Miguel de la Rocha, Jean Phillipe Miralda and Michael Hernandez. Great job, guys!

Only a few more weeks to the end of the school year! We have a few more assignments and tests to take.

This past week you took your last PLATO Math test. You graded the test right after taking it and now know your score.
Word Problems Booklets #1 and #2 are to be turned in today. It should be turned in together with your work for those problems.
We also started with our Polynomials Unit, Chapter 9. This week we will have a test.
I will also, be checking binders and notebooks. You already have your Binder rubric.
Math Olympics will be held at AST this Friday and Saturday.

We are almost there, at the end of the school year. I hope you are ready to fight to the end and earn very nice grades and be ready for

Today is the start of our 4th and last quarter of the school year. It seems like this year just flew by. Let´s work and earn high grades to make ourselves proud!

This Friday is end of the 3rd Quarter. It is also a holiday. So we are off to a short week. Have a great week and beautiful long weekend. End of the 3rd quarter is Friday.
Ms. BorjasLast week, we finished our Measurement Unit. We had a quiz on it and our grades for the 3rd quarter are done.
This week, we will start with our Linear Functions Unit. We will be studying sections of Chapter 4 from the textbook.
Also, you should have turned in your Binder and also you were given a grade for OTB (On Task Behavior). Those of you who were out of school with extra-curricular activities need to take the quiz on Measurement as soon as possible. On Tuesday, at 2:30pm I will be giving this quiz to those who need it.
You should check your Algebra notebook and see if you need a new one for the fourth quarter. Also, check your supplies (pencils, eraser, colored pencils and ruler.

Hello, everyone!
We are about to start a new month. With March comes the value of the month of Discipline. Discipline is required in many aspects of life. Scoring high grades, being good in a certain sport, playing an instrument and being a nice human being all take a lot of discipline. But, it is all worth it!

We have started the Measurement Unit. This week you will be given a new Booklet to work on, Remember, we might have a pop quiz any day. Binder check is going on now. Don’t forget to laminate your Geometry Formulas.

Also, your Robot is to be displayed during the walkthrough. It should look attractive and display the volume information you calculated.
This week, we will finish with the Angles Booklet. Towards the end of the week, we will continue with our Geometry Unit, with the section on Transformations.

Algebra Equations Project:
Last Friday your Algebra "Equations " Project was assigned. The following are the steps to be followed (in case you didn't copy them from the board).
1. Solve all the word problems on the Handout.
2. Select one of the problems (with its set of questions) that you just solved.
3. In a piece of construction paper set up the word problem. Give all information that's necessary. Show all your steps to solve it.
4. Make sure you explain each step. Be creative!
5. Make your work attractive and easy to read.
6. Make sure it has a title, name and section and number of the problem.
7. Follow the word problem solving Plan that we studied before in class. You can find it in the textbook in Ch. 1 and also in your class notes.
This project is to be turned in on Tuesday at the end of the class.

Today, you will get you back your tests to be signed by your Parents and returned to school by Tuesday. Also, this newsletter needs to be signed every week and pasted to your notebook. All of these count towards your On Task grade.

We just had our first test. On Monday, you will get it back, so your parents can see it and sign it. Please, bring it back by Tuesday to school. Otherwise, you will be unprepared for class. Do not forget to bring your calculator to school. I’ll be checking for materials.
We will also, be working on a Foldables– Project. I will give you a Rubric so you can follow. We will work during class on the project.
You need to keep in mind that Internet sources are just a back-up plan. You are to copy homework from Homework Board in the classroom and carry your textbook for homework.

Class description and objectives
The 8th grade Algebra course is based on the Standards and Principles of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the academic goals of the American School of Tegucigalpa.
- This class seeks, among other things, high expectations and support for all students. The students will work towards their own preparation to go on to more advanced math courses in school years to come.
